What to Expect on Your First Time Massage Visit in Lake Forest.
Updated 2026 · 7-minute read · By Golden SPA
If it's your first time walking into a massage spa, it's normal to wonder what actually happens. Here's the whole flow at Golden SPA — from pulling into Forest Ridge Plaza to walking back out — written for guests who want to know the routine before they book.
Before you arrive — what to expect walking in.
Most first-time guests are nervous about the wrong things. You don't need to bring anything special, you don't need to undress in front of anyone, and you won't be lectured about hydration or posture. Golden SPA is a small, independent spa — three single rooms and one couples suite — not a chain. The lobby holds two chairs and a tea station. That's it.
Pull into Forest Ridge Plaza at 24342 Muirland Blvd. Park in front of our door — it's free, and the lot rarely fills. The 7-Eleven on the corner is your visual cue. Come in and a real person will greet you (not a kiosk, not a tablet).
If you haven't booked yet, you can chat us first to confirm a room is open. Text (626) 879-7668 with your name, the service, and a rough time. Same-day texts work most weekdays before 4 pm.
The intake, the room, and the session.
Once you're inside, we'll hand you a short intake — two minutes — covering injuries, pressure preference, and any spots to avoid. We'll ask if you want the diffuser on (eucalyptus or lavender), music off, or the room warmer. Tell us anything. It's your hour.
Your therapist walks you to a private room and steps out while you change. Most guests keep their underwear on; some prefer fully undressed. Either is fine. You lie under the top sheet on the table, face down or up depending on the service. A knock before they come back in.
During the session you stay covered the whole time. Only the area being worked on is exposed — and re-covered as soon as that area is finished. If pressure is too much, the room is too cool, or you want to skip an area, just say so. Therapists prefer feedback; it's what makes the hour right.
What you'll feel afterward
Most guests describe the first 30 minutes after a massage as light, slightly floaty, and a little slower than usual. Drink water. Take a beat before driving. We'll offer tea or water in the lounge if you want to sit. Pay at the front desk by card or cash; tipping is on the receipt at 15–20%, but it's optional.
First-visit questions
Common first-timer questions.
How early should I arrive for my first time massage visit?
Five minutes early is plenty. It gives you time to fill out the short intake without feeling rushed. If you're running late, just chat with us — we'll hold the room when possible.
What do I wear during a massage?
Most guests keep their underwear on. Some prefer fully undressed under the sheet. Both are fine. You stay covered the whole session; only the area being worked on is exposed and re-covered immediately.
Do I have to talk during the massage?
No. Many first-timers go quiet after the first few minutes and that's normal. Speak up if pressure is too much or too light, if you want to skip an area, or if the room temperature is off. Otherwise, just breathe.
Is tipping required at Golden SPA?
Never required. A typical tip is 15–20% of the session price in cash or on the card. There's no pressure either way — we'd rather you come back than tip out of guilt.
