Choose Swedish to rest: long, gliding strokes at a light to medium pressure over the whole body. Choose Deep Tissue for a tight back, shoulders or hips: slower, firmer pressure. At Golden SPA Massage in Lake Forest both cost $50 for 30 minutes or $70 for 60.
What Swedish feels like
Swedish feels smooth and even. Long strokes at a light to medium pressure warm up the whole body.
There is no deep work on knots, which makes it a good first massage. See our Swedish Massage page.
What deep tissue feels like
Deep tissue feels slow and firm. Your therapist works into the back, shoulders, neck and hips.
It should feel strong but never sharp. Say so, and the pressure comes down. See our Deep Tissue Massage page.

How to decide
Decide by your goal. To rest, choose Swedish. To work on tight muscles, choose Deep Tissue.
Guests with a stiff back from a desk or a long commute often pick Deep Tissue. Guests who mainly want to unwind pick Swedish or Relaxation.
How firm is too firm?
Too firm is when you tense up or hold your breath. Good pressure feels strong while you still breathe easily.
Tell your therapist straight away, and they adjust.
A bit of both
You can ask for a mix: an easy pace overall, with firmer work on one or two spots.
Point to those spots before you start, and your therapist plans the time around them.
Price and booking
Both cost the same: $50 for 30 minutes or $70 for 60.
